Matguard USA makes donation to Hofstra University Wrestling Complex

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 2, 2009

Hempstead, NY - Matguard USA, an industry leader in antibacterial products for athletes, participated in a breakfast program to raise funds for the Teague Ryan Wrestling Complex. The complex is a new state of the art wrestling center located on the Hofstra University Campus.

Matguard made a donation to the Teague Ryan Wrestling Complex as guests at the banquet. The new facility was named after Ohio State wrestling coach Tom Ryan’s son who passed away at age five from a rare heart condition in 2004. Ryan coached at Hofstra University for 11 years before taking over as Ohio State's head coach in 2007.

“We are happy to participate in honoring both Tom Ryan and his son,” said Tom Bunge, CEO of Matguard USA. “Tom was a wrestling legend in Long Island and is now at one of the top wrestling programs in the country. We were happy to help in this worthy cause.”

The event preceded the MATGUARD-sponsored Ohio State vs. Hofstra wrestling match where MATGUARD provided samples to 4500 spectators. The two prestigious wrestling programs had a competitive match, ultimately Ohio state won.

Ryan shared the naming of the renovation with Ray Downey Sr. and Rudy Fiorvanti. Downey was a New York City Fire Department chief killed in the Sept. 11 attacks and Fiorvanti was a wrestling, football and lacrosse captain during the early 1970’s.
